I've thought about it, more than a few times. Actually, its something I think of regularly. Weird? I don't think so. I think we all think about these kinds of things.
I change my mind often and maybe I need to keep a file on itunes to keep Hubby updated!

Who's been sleeping in my house?

It has been a very long time since I blogged. I have been keeping up to date with everyone but just haven't felt the need to blog until now.

Tonight is the premiere of the new ABC series "Who's been sleeping in my house?" at 8pm. The reason for me flogging this on my blog is that the host, Adam Ford, is a friend. Our house is buzzing with excitement at seeing him on TV after hearing about all the work that has gone into the series.

So far today my side kick and I have set up the train set and made lots of awesome bridges.

We have crashed it down again and packed it up.

We have set up his car track set thingy that hooks onto to a table and sees the little cars hurtle down towards a plastic gorilla with cars in its hands.

More crashing.

We have eaten healthy snacks.

We have watched Marmaduke.

We have played hide and seek.

I've been told where to hide and pretended numerous times that I didn't know where he was.

I almost fell asleep when I didn't follow his orders and hid instead under the bean bags.

We have eaten homemade cookies.

He drank warm milk.

I drank coffee.

I did a little housework in between playing.

I have been sneaking back to the computer in between playing.

We checked the mail.

He told me he gets sad because there is never anything for him in the mailbox.
He is a funny, precious little creature.

He is my boy.

This week I'm grateful for.....

Friends

Watching my little ones with their friends brings me so much joy. My big girl's bestie is moving up to Queensland at the end of term. She is, so far coping well and is savouring the time they have left together. They are spending as much time together as they can while they can. I am finding lovely little letters written to her friend telling her not to go and that she will miss her so much. It breaks my heart.

Progress

You've got to love it when there is progress in the renovation department. Floorboards are layed, wall colours are being chosen. Lots of debate about the colours of walls in the kiddies rooms. They have all chosen colours I'm not too keen on so I've decided to paint their rooms white with a feature wall. I'm generally not into the feature wall but figure that it is much easier to paint over than a whole bedroom.

The husband and I had a date this week. It was just a coffee after school drop off but it was just the 2 of us. Something we rarely do but need to do more often. A walk along our beautiful beach ended our date before the reality of returning home to breakfast dishes caked in cornflakes and pyjamas flung from one end of the house to the other.

Comfort food - GF Pudding

In my last post I mentioned that I have redisovered my love of baking and as a consequence I have recieved a few requests for recipes. My eldest daughter is a Coeliac, therefore she cannot eat anything with gluten in it. Sounds easy, but gluten is found in a huge and strange variety of foods. She has been living with this for 5 years now and is completely accustomed to it, as we as a family are. Hubby and I are thankful that it is reasonably easily managed and not serious in comparison to other allergies.

I have been baking cookies once a week and have decided that one night a week we will have a tasty dessert. This recipe was so good, but next time I will definately be cutting down on the amount of sugar, it was super sweet.

BUTTERSCOTCH PUDDING

190g (1 1/2 cups) gluten-free SR flour

1 tsp gluten-free baking powder

80g (1/3 cup firmly packed) brown sugar

170 ml (2/3 cup) milk

60g unsalted butter, melted and cooled

1 egg

1 tbsp golden syrup or pure maple syrup

165g (3/4 cup firmly packed) brown sugar, extra

2 tbsp golden syrup or pure maple syrup

Preheat the oven to 170 C. Lighly grease a 1.25 litre ovenproof dish.

Sift the flour and baking powder into a large bowl. Stir in the sugar, then make a well in the centre. In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, butter, egg and golden syrup/maple syrup. Pour into the prepared dish. Place the dish on a baking tray.

Sprinkle the extra brown sugar over the batter. Combine the extra golden syrup and 420ml (1 2/3 cups) boiling water and carefully pour over the batter. Bake for 30 - 35 minutes or until a skewer inserted halfway into the pudding comes out clean.

Set the pudding aside for 5-10 minutes to allow the sauce to thicken slightly before serving.

HINT - To make this free of dairy and egg, replace the milk with gluten-free rice drink, the butter with dairy-free margarine and the egg with egg replacer.

This week I am grateful for ......

- Redisovering my love of baking. I have whipped up Gluten Free chocolate cookies, Honey and Ginger cookies and last night tackled a Gluten Free Butterscotch self-saucing pudding. They were all delish and the coeliac of the family was a very happy girl.

- Having a day to myself.

- Op shopping that day away and bringing a load of goodies home.

- Seeing my 9 year old get her ears pierced with her 2 best friends, truly delightful.

- the husband's floorboard laying ability, it's coming along nicely.

- TV. I love it, can't get enough of it. Good or bad, serious or funny.....hello Angry Boys and Offspring, I do love you both. Also, loving the multitude of episodes of Grand Designs.

After a sleep in, the morning started with lots of cuddles, gorgeous handmade gifts and one very special self bought gift (the kids think their Dad picked it out!).

Nothing like a photo shoot not long after you open your eyes.....

Made to model my new bike panniers or saddlebags as I like to refer to them by. Now I just need a new bike! Loving my Basil double pannier bought online from Ruthy's Rides.

End of the day for the littlies. We were all feeling a little tired at this stage.

Once again I have slipped back into non-blogging status. I have been missing but there has been no action to speak of, craft wise. I have thought about blogging, clicked on "new post", but just haven't had anything to say. I have been reading blogs and sometimes commenting. So, I am hoping to get some sort of blogging routine happening.

During the last month we have...

A day trip to Kennett River and Wye River. Can't wait to go back and camp. Stopped in at The Wye River General Store, amazing! Great coffee.

The kiddies enjoying a hot chocolate in our daggy campervan that will one day look much prettier. A quick camping trip to my MIL's in Casterton for her 90th birthday bash, complete with CWA afternoon tea, yummo!

Caught up with friends in Melbourne and then a trip to Phillip Island. We got to see the Penguin Parade which was a definite hit with the kids, and us for that matter.

The girls decided to have a little shop on the nature strip. Lots of bookmarks, drawings, posters, paper weights and lemons.

Reuben was on hand to act as security guard.

Getting ready for Ms Blondie's 7th birthday party. Thank goodness she has agreed to a sleepover with only 2 friends. I'm sure that between them they will make enough noise.

This week I am grateful for......

Old friends
On Thursday I dropped my kiddies off early at my sisters and drove an hour and a half to Ballarat. My reason for the drive was for a long overdue catch up with a lovely friend. We both started teaching art the same year in country Victoria many years ago. Now, after marriage, mortgages and children, catching up is not so easy. She is mid way through her pregnancy and I am so excited that she has baby number 3 on the way.
Our day consisted of coffee, lunch and our true passion..........op shopping. This woman has style and can spot a treasure a mile away and she knows where to go to pick up a bargain. As always I received a HUGE bag of vintage clothes from her, Wow!
I just love those special friends that although you may not see each other often, when you do its back to where you left off.....very special indeed!

Driving by myself
- no toilet stops
- no fighting
- no asking when we will be there
- no packing of snacks, drinks, extra clothes and activities to keep little ones busy
- no answering questions, reading road signs aloud, refereeing arguments and generally no talking....
- listening to my music and singing as loud as I wanted!

I've been making wrap skirts with some gorgeous vintage fabric. It's been so much fun and I've found it difficult to stop. Even my dog Reuben wanted to be in the photo shoot!!!

I'll be adding these to my shop soon but for today I am off to Ballarat to visit a lovely friend of mine that I haven't seen for way too long. Have a great day everyone.

This week I am grateful for....
Having my big girl home from her Grade 4 camp. It wasn't the same around here without her and although she is known as the quietest of the 3, it seemed so quiet without her. The 2 nights away seemed like an eternity and I was so excited to pick her up this afternoon. Apparently she didn't feel the same and had so much fun that she didn't miss us at all!!!!
I have loved listening to her tales of camp. I've heard the highlights (jumping off the diving board) and the lowlights ("the food wasn't even homemade!!!") and everything in between. It was lovely to see her collapse in to an exhausted but happy slumber.

I've got my sewing mojo back......to an extent. There is nothing like a little pressure of an upcoming market to push my arse into action.
This cushion was previously a table mat. I've been making them for a few years and keep thinking that they would look great as cushions. Done. Finally. I donated it to my girls school's fair for their silent auction. Funnily enough it was purchased by Miss Blondie's best friends Mumma.

In other creative news I have whipped up a few ladies wrap skirts for the Festival of the Sea on Sunday. I haven't taken any photos yet but promise to share next week.

Whilst talking with the kiddies this morning about what is going on in Japan at the moment and contemplating the fate of so many, the little guy pipes up with "It's okay Mummy, I will turn myself into a pterodactyl and fly up to the buildings and save the people".

If only it was that simple.

I feel so much sadness with what is happening in this crazy world of ours.

Over the weekend I was feeling poorly and spent a good deal of it Nanna napping and just getting through the day as best I could. Although, I will admit to dosing myself up on sudafed so that I could enjoy a girls night out on Saturday night............so worth it!
Whilst I was snoozing the husband made toffee apples with the kiddies. They looked amazing and I must say I was super impressed with his toffee apple making ability, who would have known???

Flea Market Finds

So in love with this little number but haven't been able to wear it as it's a bit big. It is lined, so I'll have to spend a bit of time adjusting it. It was a steal for $3 and when I finally get around to resizing it I will be stepping out with the cowboy boots and floral frilly dress!

This one i have worn so much already. Just a Kmart brand, but it fits perfectly and great for the occasional summery day. I think I paid a whole $2.50 for this one.

I'm sure I'm too old for a pinafore but I don't really care. I like it!

Really loving this fabric and thinking of making some wrap skirts for the Mumma's.

I haven't experienced much creative energy of late. Instead, I have been back on the paint brush and the sandpaper. Not too exciting but it must be done. Not only do I have all the skirtings, architraves and lots of windows to paint, at some stage I need to get out and paint the outside of the house as well......

My Creative Space today is actually my 6 year old daughters. I have been teaching her to sew along with her older sister. A lesson in patience for me and a super fun and crafty lesson for the girls.

She is super proud of her cushion and I must say she did such a great job. I love the design!

A gift to me

I had a birthday last month and given that my family live far away and do not trust themselves to choose a gift that I will like, I received money. I'm not talking large wads of cash but just enough for me to purchase some art. Affordable art. I am so happy with what I picked out and can't wait to save a few dollars to buy some more.

I apologise for the terrible photo but this is superb!!!!! Tracy Chaplin is Gretel Girl and she is so talented. The other prints I bought were these 2 from The Black Apple's etsy store. They are simply stunning and I can't wait to find some frames for them and add them to what will be my "art" wall. I also bought a collection of postcards from the same series of paintings. I plan to frame them also.
There is nothing like original artworks but on my extremely limited budget it is not going to happen. These prints are great quality and will look so good framed.

1. This week I am so very grateful for a walk along the beach with my beautiful dog Reuben. He get so excited as soon as he sees me put my runners on loves meeting all the other dogs along the way. I've been walking most nights for the past 3 weeks whilst the husband puts the kids to bed. Now that is something to be grateful for, if only they were actually asleep when I got home. Not his fault though, my monkeys are too busy talking and giggling to sleep.

2. I am grateful for my first child free day since last year. I crave time to myself and after the holidays with 3 kids and husband home the whole time I was desperate to have the house to myself. Taking a little time out to smell the roses. Bliss.

3. I am also grateful that my husband has mostly been patient with my crazy premenstrual mood this week. Despite trying to suck up the bitch within, it has surfaced on more than one occasion................ maybe that's why he is almost pushing me out the door to go for a walk at night!!!!

Today I'm grateful for.....

Wine..... of the white variety. I am particularly fond of a Giesen Sauvignon Blanc and was delighted when the husband returned home from work the other night with half a doz of my faves! I'm hoping they will last a while longer than usual as I am trying to be alcohol free during the week. Not sure how long that will last!

Coffee, oh how I love you. I couldn't survive without a few caffeine hits a day and can't wait to buy another stove top espresso thingy. I can't find the perfect one so for now its the plunger.

Fruit fruit. Love it, especially when its super cold on warm day. Yummo.

Kids artwork pops up everywhere in here, I love it.

Great cabinet found in my Mother in laws shed, shame about the mustard colour.

This is literally My Creative Space. The space that was once my girls bedroom until I booted them out across the hall to sleep hospital ward style with their little brother.
Over the last few days I've been having a bit of a clean up in this very purple studio space. Believe it or not these photos are taken towards the end of said clean up! By this stage I'd already thrown out so much crappola and found so many weird and wonderful things that had found their way in here. I've been organising things into boxes and containers and finding lots of unfinished projects which I have promised myself WILL get done before the next market!

*****An update on my "real" studio upstairs........ plaster is on the walls, half the lining board on the ceiling. Slowly, slowly it is taking shape.

What's in my bag??? I actually own a number of handbags and keep doing the swapsy thing which I wouldn't recommend. I always leave something very important in the "other" bag!

The contents!

I would like to say i was surprised by the amount of crap in my bag/s but in reality I know how messy I am. For your eyes the contents were tidied up substantially and the mountain of tissues, shopping lists and old receipts were put in the bin.

In it we have 3 variations of a wallet/purse. I can't find the perfect one so why not have 3 I say! A few pens, hair ties, cold sore cream, nasal spray, pain killers, keys, extra keys, bandaids, sunnies, old receipts, wrist cuff, brochures, a necklace, phone, a toy car, doilies from an oppy adventure that haven't made it to my studio and my fab Auntie Cookie bag.

I'd like to be one of those people that has a spot for everything and have it all organised. Sadly, I am of the variety that often has to up end the contents to find the ringing phone!

I am grateful for ......

My children's love of bike riding and the girls appreciation of their new bikes, they are loving themselves.

Having a beautiful beach so close to home and those few "beach worthy" days that we've been able to get there.

The excitement when those teeny little teeth start to fall out. I cannot stop staring at Miss Blondie and worry that I'll forget how gorgeous she looks with her 2 front teeth gone.

Wow! It's been about a month since my last post. I have been busy with Christmas, New Year, a little sewing early in the month and lots of sanding and painting of weatherboards..... and of course the usual holiday activities (more on that later).

A little something for very special teachers

Being the last minute shopper, sewer and organiser that I am I was up late Wednesday night making these little makeup bags for my girls teachers. They picked the fabric and I did the sewing. Included in the little package was a "Teachers survival kit" consisting of hand santiser, wipes, panadol, chocolate and alcohol. My girls didn't get it, the teachers did!!!!

For the little guys daycare teachers I'm going to copy Janina's idea from here.

I've been incredibly teary over the last week or so and I'm not really sure why. Maybe its because the girls have had such a great year at school and have had the best teachers. Next year it is the unknown, I don't know their teachers and we have to start fresh. It may also be because my big girl is turning 9 tomorrow and that's too close to 10!!!

I've been trying to figure out what to buy/make for the school teachers this year. There is nothing like leaving it to the last minute I say. In the past I have bought gorgeous Christmas decorations, chocolate, made gingerbread and other things. This year I think I'll be shopping here. They have free postage until midnight Dec 20th.

New logo

Over the past 3 weeks or so I've been working away with Anna from Invite with Style to create a logo for my business. Its something I've wanted to do for a long time but was a little wary after a bad experience with a designer last year that got it so wrong. I saw an advertisement for Anna's business in an email from madeit and after contacting her felt that she was the woman for me...... the designer for me anyway!

She has been amazing. The 3 initial concepts were all just beautiful and I would have been happy with each of them. She really understood what I wanted and I could not be happier with the end result.

Mondays I must say are not my favourite day. The organising after the weekend and trying to get back on track is often a little too much.

I had planned on getting a bit of sewing done over the weekend. My niece was over for a sleepover and I figured that would keep the kids busy. Miss Blondie was feeling left out so I spent my time playing board games and building lego houses. Not a bad alternative but I am now feeling a little overwhelmed with what needs to be done before the Fairy Floss Market on Sunday.

A few more goodies I have found over the last few weeks.

Loving this stencil set that I purchased on Etsy, not an oppy find but almost Op shop price, bargain! I am yet to use it but have grand plans for it.

Great fabric from an Op shop in Mildura. Its super cute and I will be whipping up some girls dresses in this. Sorry about the crappy photo!

Another great find from Mildura. Love these patterns, particularly the one on the left. I can't wait to have time to try them out and really hope all the pieces are there.

Time to spend with our own little family and our extended families.

Visiting an old friends farm stunning farm and realising that I really am a country girl at heart.

Watching my very special children play beautifully together all weekend.
I am also grateful that they act their age and enjoy being children.

For me this week it has been a case of "a little bit of this and a little bit of that". I'm completely lacking focus and need to step things up a notch as the Fairy Floss Market is on in Geelong again next weekend! I have so many things cut out, half done and in the planning stages and am hoping I can pull it all together soon.

A few more cushions done.

Trialing these girls pants. The idea has been floating around in my head for some time and yesterday I finally started on them. The plan was to get my girls to try them on this morning but they wouldn't play the game. I think I like them, the fabric is a lovely light weight denim and the pockets are patched using scraps.
As you can see in this pic I only got the drawstring done in one leg!

I like the idea of the drawstring at the ankle or just above. It can be taken out or loosened.

These fabrics are for 2 special order skirts, I really must get a start on those too!

Miss Freckles is 9

My biggie is 9 years old today.
The last 9 years have gone too fast. I have found myself spending way too long wondering how is it that I have a child of this age. I don't feel old enough but believe me I am, I'm no spring chicken! 9 is too close to 10 and 10 means that we are edging towards secondary school, teenage years and boobies..... Too much growing up is going on in this household. I tell them all to slow down but they are just not listening!

Always the protector! Miss Freckles has always looked after her younger brother and sister. She is kind and compassionate and fiercely protective.

Although an old soul, this little darling has a wicked sense of humour and thankfully is still just a little girl. She is not in a hurry to grow up and still loves being a child.

Shy and thoughtful

An outdoors girl. She loves any type of animal and is often found with her head under bushes looking for bugs. Here she is with her pet dog Jasmine who goes to school with her every day and obviously on holidays too!

Her very special cousin. Only 2 months apart and completely chalk and cheese but they love each other unconditionally and are the best of friends.

Can't Remember A Freakin' Thing

On the way swimming lessons this morning I realised that I was in fact 1/2hr late. You see last term the little guy's lesson was at 11.30am and this term it is at 11am and I just can't seem to remember it. This is the 2nd time I have done this although the first one I got there and started to get him ready when one of the girls approached me awkwardly letting me know my mistake. They must think I am a complete air head which is actually quite true, I just live in hope that people don't realise...... So, after the little guy almost squeezing out a few tears about missing his lesson today we headed straight to the beach. We frolicked in the waves and had a lovely time. Much more fun than swimming lessons me thinks!

I have had a busy day today with the camera and computer. I've been photographing what seems like every single piece of stock that I have but in truth it is only a small portion. It is such a long process and whilst I'm doing it I'm wishing I was at the sewing machine instead! But today I was rewarded with some sales not long after I had posted them on madeit, you've gotta love that! I'm aiming to spend the next day or so loading a few more things into my madeit shop for the Christmas shoppers.

I haven't been super busy by any stretch of the imagination but I have enjoyed the freedom over the last week to just create. I've had a few things on my mind lately and have now had the time to make and make some more.

I'm having fun with these "window" cushions. I have more that only need the front and backs sewn together but this great farm fabric is one of my favourites. The denim was thrifted and the farm fabric came from Mum's cupboard.

Loving these gorgeous little creatures. I found 2 NZ linen tea towels and made them into cushion covers.

My divine little poppet proudly wearing her new dress. My 2 girls ordered a new dress to wear to their Great Nan's 90th birthday on the weekend. This design has been in my head for ages and I nailed it on the first try. I'll be making more for the next Geelong Fairy Floss Market.

and hot off the press is the big girls dress. Her own design which I must say was quite specific but not difficult. Nothing like leaving things to the last minute, we are leaving for Mildura late this afternoon...

Camping out

The kiddies and their Dad decided yesterday that they would sleep the night in our campervan ..... in the driveway! We bought this campervan for $200 last year and my hubby has been slowly fixing it up. It is still on the dodgy side and really needs a pretty up both inside and out but we love it and look forward to many a weekend away in it.

Children that love school and love to learn. I am also grateful that their achievements are recognised and felt so proud seeing how chuffed Miss Blondie was to stand in front of her school to receive her award.

I've been up to a few different crafty activities this week. I have had a pile of things to get done for a friend including a few repairs.....yuk! Thankfully the repairs were done in no time and I got to make up some cushions for her. She has recently been to Hawaii and came home with some great fabric to be made up into cushions.

This one is in the process. It was a VERY large muu muu style dress and will soon be 2 very cool cushions.

I'm assuming these didn't come from Hawaii but they are gorgeous nonetheless!

My 3 year old had to pose with Chocolate the puppy on his head whilst winking ................ and why not?

These travel bags I made for my friend's daughters last year before their trip to Europe, the US and the UK. I am now sewing on the patches they collected along the way.

Oh my! I am so very happy with my latest purchase, the Saltwater Sandal. I have been eyeing these little gems off since I saw Hayley write a post about them. I knew instantly that I would be strutting my stuff with them on my feet this summer. They arrived today and I literally tore the package apart and have had them on all day. They are super comfortable and remind me of the good old days of the roman sandal!!!

Through the window

The view through what is now my studio window. It is at the front of the house and I love to see keep an eye on the neighbours, watch the cars go past, hear the squeals and giggles from the children playing at the park across the road, the pop, pop, pop of the tennis balls being hit across the net not too far away. Mostly I love to see what is now a lovely, green front yard and watch my munchkins pick and eat the snow peas, climb the trees and fossick for insects.

I will soon have another studio and will miss the view from this window.

We have had a great weekend here. The boy child went to a birthday party dressed as a pirate. He was pretty impressed with himself and particularly loved the parrot his sister made for him (that's the thing pinned to his vest!!!).

All 3 kiddies had a sleepover at their cousins house whilst we took off to see Powderfinger. A very late night coupled by the consumption of a years worth of sugar meant for a lazy afternoon yesterday for the 2 younger ones. The big girl stayed on for a trip to the movies and more sugar. This morning I battled with 2 very tired and emotional girls that were both in tears at school drop off. I'm hoping that when I pick them up this afternoon things have improved.........

This was obviously not taken this morning........ If only I looked that cute in my knickers and long socks!!!

Powderfinger in Ballarat = MUD!!!!

Powderfinger in Ballarat = FUN!!!

It was cold, it was wet and boy was it muddy! Even under the giant tent there was mud like I've never experienced. I have to say it didn't bother me one bit, it kind of added to the fun. I did think about wearing gumboots but didn't know where to start looking for mine. I opted instead for my least favourite pair of boots over my jeans. A good plan I soon discovered. I felt for the those wearing ballet flats or little canvas shoes. My guess is their shoes would be still in the mud!

Powderfinger were fabulous of course and I must say it was the best out of the three times I've seen them.

We are off to Ballarat tonight to see one of Powderfinger's last concerts. I've had the tickets for so long and finally the day is here. It is blowing a gale here in Ocean Grove and I'm sure as we head towards Ballarat it will only get windier and colder. Beanie, scarf, gloves and maybe my gumboots may be in order! My Creative Space................... no overly creative but am trying hard to push through the pain barrier and get things happening. I have the Fairy Floss Market next weekend in Geelong and although I am fairly well stocked I want to get way more done. So many ideas and the time is running out.

Girls summer top in this gorgeous green and pink cotton fabric. I'm so in love with this and will be whipping up a few for the market.

The last of this cute vintage fabric. It comes from my Mum's stash and she made clothes for my 3 sisters and I with it. This is the last of it, Size 1 Kitty Cat dress.

This is what will literally be my Creative Space soon. A year or so ago I booted the girls out of their bedroom so that I could use it as a studio. I put all 3 children in a room together in what will one day be our sitting room. We have been renovating for a number of years and are now getting upstairs completed. This will be my space...... I can't wait!
It will be white. Floors, walls and ceiling and the husband has promised that he will get the metal map drawers powder coated RED for me!!!

School holidays for us has not been the most exciting time. We have done very little in the way of plays and doing holiday type activities. We have all been a bit under the weather and have spent time together at home playing board games, gardening and painting the garden shed. Today, after cleaning for what seemed like hours I took the leap into the studio. I hate not making things and get a bit edgy when i'm not creating. I only needed a little taste and so far this is it! I've been wanting to try this since Jodie from RicRac posted her tutorial.

My first attempt is not the most exciting but I just used some scraps to make sure I could do it. The green of the cushion is actually a beautiful emerald green not this yucky dark green. Its obviously not finished but that's tomorrows task. I need to top stitch to attach the patterned fabric and of course actually finish the actual cushion!

The past week I must admit there has been a distinct lack of creativity in my household. But, the month before it was buzzing....

A few costumes for the girl's school concert.

A recycled dog outfit from last year made an appearance as a chubby giraffe. The preppie was more than happy and totally proud of her performance.

My little street urchin had a ball painting herself dirty and despite not feeling well did a fabulous job!

Some new Luggage tags. Now I just need to take more photos and get them into my madeit store.

John Butler Trio

The husband and I had a great night with friends on Sunday night. Indian for dinner followed by an amazing concert. I love John Butler but had never seen him live. He was amazing as was the other members of the trio, particularly Nicky Bomba the drummer!

Love, love, loved it!

I also really enjoyed Blue King Brown. They had so much energy and their music is awesome.

Yesterday was the Sugar & Spice Children's Market in Woodend. I had a great day, enjoyed a superb coffee, loved listening to the tunes of David Cosma, meeting all the other super clever retailers, and finally meeting Ali who organised such a great day (she also has grandparents called Bob & Mabel !!!!)

So........................ today I should be unpacking the left over stock and cleaning the house but I just can't seem to manage anything too physically taxing, I'm pooped!

Valentino, Retrospective: Past/Present/Future

On my little Queensland adventure my dear friend Sophie and I attended the Valentino Retrospective . It truly was a visual feast, one in which my heart skipped many a beat. From the first frock I was completely awestruck. They were beautiful, strange, delicate, "out there" but mostly they were insane. When i say insane what I mean is that each outfit was so incredibly well made and would have taken a crazy amount of time to complete and oh so much hand sewing!!!!

Being a country girl and one obsessed with windmills I couldn't resist a photo of the windmill outside the Qld Art Gallery.

This dress was so pretty and just perfect.

Although you can't see it in this pic this dress was amazing. It had lace, feathers, sequins and so much more and still looked stunning. What I really loved was that from a distance it looked as though the mannequin was tattooed.

Has anyone else been to this exhibition? If you haven't and live in Brissie, do yourself a favour and go!

At my house today it is my hubbies birthday. The celebrations began last night with dinner for a few family and friends and tonight it will be a relaxed dinner consisting of leftovers for our little family of 5. There has been many an artwork created over the weekend for Daddy to go with tickets to see John Butler Trio and a roasting pot or something like that that he actually bought for himself a few months ago and insisted it would be his gift. Who am I to argue? Men are so difficult to buy for so it was problem solved for me!

Flea Market Finds

There has not been much finding of the flea market kind around here lately. I have been trying to stay out of the shops (Oppies included) to both save money but also to stay home and concentrate on the many things I need to do. I have the Sugar and Spice Market very soon and I put my hand up to help out with my girl's school concert. Papier Mache heads........ why oh why I am now asking myself!!!! I do work best under pressure so I'm sure it will all work out.

I'm thinking both fabrics would make gorgeous girls summer dresses.

View from our Hotel

How could I resist a photo of this, my Poppy's new nickname.

I am so in love with the popcorn swimmers. Apparently the result of 6 hours of hard work.

Today 2 weeks ago I was getting ready to board a flight from Melbourne to Brisbane. A few hours previously I had thrown the kids out of the car at my sister's and screeched away from the curb at lightening speed on my way to the airport. I didn't really, I actually got quite teary whilst they didn't seem to care that I would be away for 4 nights. Driving to Tullamarine Airport in the pouring rain and howling wind I started to feel the excitement of being family free and flying off into the distant sunshine.
I arrived in Brisbane and as I was collecting my bag and buying a rail pass to head south to the Gold Coast I was grinning like a maniac. I'm sure I got a few odd looks as the taste of freedom was upon me. I actually had to stop myself from singing aloud to all and sundry "I am free to do what I want any old time".
After a lovely train ride I was picked up at the station by an old school friend and we went to the pub. Yes that's right, the Pub...........in the afternoon! A night of laughter and way too much drinking followed and of course the mother of all hangover's the following day.
The next day I met my beautiful friend Sophie. She moved up north 18 months ago and although she visits us all down here I miss her heaps. We were lucky enough to be able to shop, drink, laugh and get lost together (navigating with a hangover is not my strong point!). Once again, not a child of ours in sight!!!!
Fortitude Valley is apparently the place to shop and among many amazing stores where I couldn't even afford a button I fell in love with Sole devotion.
The shoes in this store are heavenly. A little pricey but oh so gorgeous.

We also went to see the Valentino Retrospective.

Today, after completely slacking on the blogging front for a while I thought it time to get my butt into gear. I thought I'd take part in My Place & Yours along with Danielle over at Helloowl. Today it is Whats in your handbag.

This is a very organised handbag for me. Usually it would contain all manner of child paraphenalia and today just one thing, the little blue car. Now, the reasons for this is that I made myself a new handbag therefore had to cull all the crap that would usually reside in it. This is the bag I took to Qld so because I went childless I was free to have only what I needed!
Phone, glasses case by 2, handcream, sandilwood oil, pawpaw ointment, nasal spray (addicted to it), hair elastic, wallet, tissue, swimschool newsletter and neurofen...........

Re-fashioned pillow cases

Vintage tablecloth is now a super cool ladies mini skirt.

The last week I haven't created much at all. These two "creations" are from before my little adventure to Qld. Unfortunately since my return I have "housework back", I am in pain I tell you! I arrived home to a happy but very messy house and set about cleaning up. After vacuuming a room or two I the pain set in. I have since been able to do no sewing and very little housework. A visit to the Osteopath today and one next week and hopefully I will be on the mend. I am so bummed as there are so many things I need to get done. The Sugar & Spice market is fast approaching and I have a few orders to do............agghhhh!

A new little number...

Yesterday I made this cute little dress as a sample, finished it and declared to myself that it was a winner! Today a lovely customer/friend dropped in to do some shopping before she heads off to New York. Cute little dress was snaffled straight away along with a few other bits and pieces. I'm thrilled to bits that its heading off to the divine little Freddie from NYC.

In other news, tomorrow I am heading north to Queensland. Woohoo for me. No kiddies and no husband for 4 nights. I am beside myself with excitement about seeing some friends and having some time to myself. Strangely, I am missing my family already and know that I will be very happy to head home.
My gorgeous friend Sophie and I are spending a night in Brisbane before we head north to her place in Hervey Bay but before we do we will definately be catching the Valentino Retrospective.

While the kiddies were busy playing yesterday I set about finishing up my new bag. I'm heading off to sunny (well, I hoping it will be) Queensland on Thursday for 4 days and decided a new bag was required. I'm thinking I may also need a new skirt and possibly a make-up bag too........
I'm loving the new bag. I did however come across a few tricky bits and need to figure them out before I start mass producing, that means more than one in my terms! I do though have plans to make more and a friend has already ordered one in different fabric.

I also managed to whip up these little pencil cases yesterday for a special order and will make a few extras for a friend's children I'll be visiting next week.

Today I'm back to the housework, a trip to the park, some bike riding, trampolining, setting up train sets and maybe make a start on my new skirt!

For My Creative Space this week I am late, but better late than never I say! I don't have orders to fill or a market to prepare for so I've just been pottering around in my studio.

I've been stocking up on ladies head/neck scarves and really need to get them into my madeit store and make another few for myself. I love wearing my "prototype" that is now starting to look a little worse for wear, time for a newie for me.

I have also started making a new handbag and in true "me" style I don't have a pattern. I'm drawing it up as I go and trying to record in my sketchbook the steps I'm taking. I am not the super organised crafter, more the fly by the seat of my pants type. I usually nut things out on the first one and then if its a while until I get a chance to make more I've forgotten and because I don't always write down the processes so I'm back to square one. Trying very hard to be organised this time.

Back in the Habit

I'm playing along with the one and only Pottymouthmama and trying to get Back in the Habit. The whole idea is to form a habit, a good one!

For the next 3 weeks I aim to:
(I know, I know, I know..........boring as bat shit!)

1. Drink more water
2. Exercise more
3. Take time to smell the roses
4. Do more housework

So far I am doing ok! A big day of housework for me yesterday and the house is looking respectable as opposed to the usual state of extreme disorder. More water has been drunk. Walking to school more with dog in tow. No smelling of roses as yet but did catch a lovely moment at school pick up this afternoon. Watching my girls standing together looking for me, so simple yet so gorgeous.

A busy weekend and now all is quiet.

Our busy weekend started with me doing a market on Friday night. It was a fundraiser for a local Preschool and held in a gorgeous little hall I didn't know existed.
On Saturday I had an extra 3 kiddies over as their Dad was helping Hubby hang plaster upstairs so you could say things got a little noisy! A party for Miss Blondie to attend in the afternoon and then dinner at a friends left us all feeling a touch exhausted. When Sunday rolled around the house looked like a bomb had exploded at the front door and travelled through to the back of the house... A spot of cleaning and then out the door to the Pirate Park in Barwon Heads, the skatepark and then back over the bridge to have a wander down the Barwon River. The perfect way to spend a sunny Sunday afternoon. Oh, and dinner was cooked by the man of the house and a roast! Fabulous.
Now, they are at work, school and daycare. I am enjoying the quiet and may just pop on some music (Xavier Rudd, Ash Grunwald and maybe Little Birdy) whilst I potter around. Nothing "needs" to be done, what a great feeling!

I've just been perusing the flashback pics from Curlypops. Oh the memories! I have so many photos that I could post but I am just way too vain. This is the pick of the bunch............which may explain how frightening the others are.

I know I have posted about Bluntcard before but today this seems so appropriate. I am busy getting ready for a market on Friday night and as is always the case when its close to market time I become even more domestically blind.....and I don't care!

I didn't actually buy this fabulous table and chairs. We were lucky enough to get it from my husband's Auntie who passed away last year. She lived with her husband on a farm, they had no children and lived a very simple life. We feel blessed to have some of her lovely things in our house.

The boy child thinks the table is his.

Handmade Christmas Challenge

I've been thinking Christmas all week and when I dropped in to a local oppy I knew that these little beauties would be great for my girls. Hopefully by the time Christmas rolls in they will have their own bedrooms and they will need a bedside table each. So maybe I haven't actually "handmade" them but I will be fixing them up by hand. With some sanding, painting and new knobs I'm thinking they are going to look pretty damn good and for $15 for both, a bargain.

Sew much to do!!!!

After spending the afternoon tracing, adjusting and cutting out patterns yesterday I am ready to start cutting out some fabric. Its been sitting there staring me in the face for so long and I can't wait to get to it today. I have a child and husband free day and plan to work my butt off with the music cranked up...

This fabric is for a little skirt for a girl called Molly. A custom order from one of the Mum's at school who is trusting my judgement in the design process.

Fabric, fabric and more fabric. I'm in fabric heaven.

This beautiful fabric was given to me by a friend. If only it wasn't lined with that rubbery curtain stuff.............bags maybe!

Love the colours in this but have only a smallish piece.

This one is very different but I fell in love and can't wait to maybe make some summery dresses.

Handmade Christmas Challenge

I like to get Christmas pressies organised early. This year we will spend Christmas at my Mother in laws and because it is such a HUGE family gift giving is kept to a minimum. So on that front I am off the hook to an extent!

Last week my big girl had a party to attend, so I whipped up this cushion for her lovely friend Anouk. Big girl was most impressed and declared that she would like one "just the same". Idea No. 1, cushions for each of the 3 kiddies for Christmas to go in their new bedrooms. We are in the midst of Stage 2 of renovating our house which means that our children will have their own bedrooms by Christmas time. That also means decorating and lots of lovely little gifts I can make for them and put away for Christmas.

At My House

Today I'm playing along with Buttons Lou Lou's At My House.

Its the start of Term 3 and I got up early this morning to get the girls ready for school. They had to be woken up but jumped up with excitement and got ready faster than ever. The little boy on the other hand slept through all the noise and had to be woken at 8.20am. Before he opened his little eyes a big cheeky grin spread across his face. He held his arms out to me still with eyes closed and hugged me so tightly. With eyes closed he giggled "You a cheeky Mumma". It doesn't get much better than that!

Craft Swap

I recently took part in the The Contemporary Handmade Alliance Craft Swap and was teamed up with the lovely and super talented Linda from lulu froufrou.

I just love my gift and can't wait to wear my beautiful necklace, the only problem will be deciding which fabric button to add to it. As for the hair tie and hair pin, I think I'll be fighting a losing battle with my daughters for those.

Poison Ivy

If you've been reading my last few My Creative Space posts you know I've been working on an outfit for a friends 40th birthday party. The theme was Heroes and Villians and I decided to go as Poison Ivy. After much googling and creative thinking I came up with a plan to make a dress (as lycra just wasn't going to happen) with lots of fabric leaves sewn on..................... About a quarter of the way through this I was doubting myself and wondering if I had the stamina to finish it. I did and actually really loved making it.

The party was hysterically funny and the most fun I have had in so long. I caught up with friends I hadn't seen in years and everyone let loose and had a ball. As you can see by the photos things got a bit messy by the end of the evening. Wonder Woman did a few "Nudie Runs" which considering it was a freezing cold night was incredibly brave................or stupid???

Bring on the next 40th birthday party I say!

For last weeks Creative Space I showed some fabric that I wanted to a. make into cushions and b. make into a Poison Ivy style dress for a 40th I am attending on Saturday night.

I'm loving the cushions and am now deciding if to keep them or put them in my madeit shop......

A little sneak peak of my dress up dress. It took a really long time and I can't believe that I put so much time and energy into it for a fancy dress party. Anyway I'm excited about it, loved making it and can't wait for the party. We are packing up today for our long drive to Mildura in the morning and looking forward to my lovely friend Sally's 40th birthday. I will post more pics next week.

Flea Market Finds

I've been on the lookout for the "right" coat for a month or so now and every one I look at just isn't "right". That was until I spotted this one of the local op shops. It wasn't exactly a bargain in op shop terms but it fits beautifully and I love it.

I picked these up for $3, never worn and with no laces........ I love converse trainers but don't love the price so with my $12.50 purple ones from BigW and these nameless brand ones I'm pretty happy!

More fabric for my stash. Love, love, love this floral. For a measly $4 it was a bargain and its a huge piece of fabric.

I have been very lucky finding some super cool fabric of late from the Oppies and am busting to get to work. I have way too many ideas and projects on the go and as a consequence haven't done much at all. Today I WILL produce something..........might help if I get off the computer!!!

Today I will get this pile of unfinished bunting finished.

I will also get a cushion made from this rather super tablecloth with New Zealandy stuff on it.

And if i'm super organised, I will cut out a little black dress that will end up covered in fabric green leaves...................................................Poison Ivy style. I have a 40th birthday party coming up with the theme "Heroes and Villians". Now, in my humble opinion this little ol' theme should have been used up for the 18th and 21st parties when we could all pull off wearing lycra. After much thought and googling I have come up with Poison Ivy wearing a dress with leggings, boots and possibly a cape. This is to stay warm and to also hide the lumpy bumpy bits that my late 30's body has. So, stay tuned...

Flea Market Finds

I've found some really lovely things lately and have had fun searching Oppies that I only visit occasionally. This cupboard is something that I've been on the lookout for and for a mere $35 I couldn't not have it. At the moment its in the hallway looking after my collection of crazy nylon/polyester vintage clothing. Its not the best position for it but until our upstairs reno is completed it doesn't have a home.

A pillowslip and assorted doilies that I really must start to use. My collection is growing at a fast rate so I think its time to get creative with them.

I have a passion for this kind of quilted fabric and recently made a little girls skirt from a hot pink floral version. I have more grand plans for this red piece. I'm also thinking the blue and green tablecloth may live a new life as a ladies skirt.

I am so in love with these Italian red leather sandels. They were an absolute steal and look like they've never been worn. I also love the heel, it helps with my lack of height issue!
